City of History, Hard Work & Progress

This area was originally known as Thorn Grove or Bloom. When the town incorporated in 1892, it officially adopted the name "Chicago Heights."

What began as an agricultural center moved forward after 1900 and saw newly developed industrial technology enter and begin the bridge to the next millennium.

At this time, the first zoning regulations were put into effect to ensure residential areas were separate from industrial sites.

The makeup and pattern of the community took on a more diverse and interesting atmosphere as industry found a home here. Steel manufacturing, chemical plants and other manufacturing facilities hire an ethnically diverse labor pool.
